(Inspired by my visit to the Public Spaces Conference, pls read my blog.)

Are we as far away from each-other as we are positioned in the current discussions? I don’t think so. So I made a zine: How to talk to a tech-pessimist and/or tech-optimist. Download, print, share. Or read here:
How to talk to a tech pessimist
Beware of your attitude:
- Be kind and curious. Be open to other people’s opinions.
- Think hard, be thorough.
Starters:
Find out what the tech pessimists is actually talking about (there is a lot of confusion in tech debates) and dig deeper together:
- Big tech? (yek)
- Gen AI? (yek)
- Other AI?
- Surveillance?
- Profit?
- Corporations?
- Shareholders?
- Capitalism?
- Democracy?
Discuss damage:
What damage can the ideas of the tech pessimist do? (Schooling, equality, science, democracy, earth, …)
You’ll probably find out that many tech pessimist are really Power Critics!
Many tech pessimists really like computers and the early internet.
What went wrong was the powers that built on these early crazy days. Those have to go back in Pandora’s box.
So a Power Critic
Aren’t we all? The planet goes to shambles, it it time to critical of the powers that are. We should all be Power Critics, connecting to Change Makers.

- Big tech? (yek)
- Gen AI? (yek)
- Other AI?
- Safety?
- Growth?
- Corporations?
- Shareholders?
- Capitalism?
- Democracy?
Discuss damage:
What damage can the ideas of the tech optimist do? (Schooling, equality, science, democracy, earth, …)
You’ll probably find out that many tech optimists are really Change Makers!
We only have to wash them from the ideas that capitalism and growth are the only engines for development. Money driven development (more profit!) is not sustainable and against the planet. Caring is.
So a Change Maker
Aren’t we all? The planet goes to shambles, it it time to critical of the powers that are. We should all be Change Makers, connecting to Power Critics.
